You may have started out on your new diet plan by reading all about it in great detail, you know what you have to do, you know where you are now, you know where you want to get to, you are enthusiastic, motivated and this time, this is it.  “Why even one of those skinny movie stars uses the same diet, so it MUST work”.

You seem to have everything in place then somehow, something inside you gives up and you stumble, lose motivation, lose sight of your goal and you’re back at the starting blocks.

Many of you will be familiar with this up down, up down, bouncy castle type diet behaviour, where you lose the weight and then put it all back on again and again, without ever really understanding why, it’s a constant battle that never seems to reap the rewards associated with the hard work and determination that you have put into your goal.

How does it all work?

Trying too hard can mean you end up doing the opposite of what you want to do.  This process is called "Coue's Law of reversed effort".

For example you may start your day determined not to eat chocolate, then after a few hours you experience cravings and eventually you give in to them, eat the chocolate and this makes you feel bad.  Then you start again the next day with renewed effort but get exactly the same results until you feel you have no willpower at all.  Sound familiar?
