Life Coaching FAQ

What is Coaching?

The International Coaching Federation has the following definition:-

‘Coaching is an ongoing partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives.  Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance and enhance their quality of life.’

Is coaching like counselling?

No, coaching is not a therapy.  Therapy often addresses a dysfunction of some description and unresolved issues from the past, whereas coaching enables a functional person to move forward and achieve greater success and reach their true potential.

Coaching is future focused, action oriented and supports the client in moving toward their goals.

Coaching is the solid use of tools and techniques to help the client reach their full potential.  It involves focused discussions to aid your understanding of yourself and your life and to develop your goals and milestones and an action plan to take the necessary steps to increase your performance and get the results that you want.

Will Life Coaching fix my problems?

No, Life Coaching is a relationship between the client and the coach, in which the coach acts as a facilitator for the client to enable them to understand themselves better and find their own answers and solutions.  When the client does find their own way, they then take ownership and responsibility for their actions that lead them to the results they are seeking.

Is coaching like mentoring in which I can get the advice that I need?

The Coach does not give advice.  We raise your own awareness of your capabilities and base our processes on the assumption that the client is naturally capable of achieving better results.

However, we may offer you suggestions at times for your consideration should your progress be faltering or you feel stuck.

If The Coach does have a background or expertise in a particular area than they may provide occasional consultative advice during the coaching program.  This is usually the case in a business or executive coaching program.

Does coaching take a lot of time?

A typical coaching session takes around 1 hour and usually involves approximately 6 sessions depending on what you wish to achieve and the type of program you want to follow.  Sessions usually take place weekly or fortnightly.

These sessions can be conducted over the phone, in person, by e-mail or skype.  You book an allotted time to contact me and we take it from there.  Some people prefer face to face, but the other methods used are equally valuable and sometimes preferable to the time poor.

You offer a free initial consultation, what happens at that?

This usually takes approximately 30 minutes and it is a great chance to get to know each other in a relaxed, friendly and confidential environment.

There will be a client information form that I will complete by asking you some questions.

We will look at the issues, changes and challenges that you are concerned with.

I’ll explain the way that my coaching style can help you to achieve the changes you desire.

All of this is designed to help you to decide whether coaching is right for you, or indeed if you feel that I am the right person to help you to move forward in your life.

Finally we will conclude with me asking if you would like to work with me.

So, it’s as simple as that, nothing to lose.

How much does coaching cost?

The coaching investment fees are £65 per session.

Discounts are available for prepaid sessions and some block programs.

This is excellent value for money when you achieve the changes that you want in your life.

How do I pay?

My clients pay by cash or cheque.

Some business clients prefer to pay via their company invoicing system.

Are there any guarantees?

Guarantees are not usually available in coaching.

However, I will give you a full payment refund at the end of your first coaching session if you do not wish to continue with the remainder of your program.  How’s that for a guarantee?

What are the benefits of telephone coaching?

Telephone coaching is very convenient and time efficient, as there is no need to travel to a meeting place.  It is incredibly powerful because it offers the client a unique blend of intimacy with the coach whilst remaining anonymous.  This blend often helps the client to feel comfortable and more able to discuss some personal issues than at a face – to – face session.

What does it feel like to be coached?

Coaching sessions are exciting and dynamic and challenging all at the same time and they will have a positive inspiring and motivational effect on you from the very start.

They are safe, confidential and very supportive.

You may find that it is difficult talking about yourself and your life’s circumstances at times, but you will understand your life and situations with more clarity by the end of the first session.

Is it confidential?

Yes, completely confidential, no information is disclosed to anyone in any way shape or form.

Any contact information is only used by me with your permission and is never passed on to anyone else.

What are your qualifications, credentials and experience?

I have spent 20 years coaching individuals and groups in their life, work and business performance improvement.

I have been a business best practice coach and trainer during most of this time and have worked all over the world as an international trouble shooter for failing business ventures.
